Who is Cambridge Audio?

Cambridge Audio is a British manufacturer of high-fidelity audio equipment known for producing premium sound systems, amplifiers and streaming audio devices. Founded in 1968, the company has built a strong reputation among audiophiles and music enthusiasts for creating products that deliver detailed, natural sound while remaining relatively accessible compared with many high-end audio brands.

Headquartered in London and owned by the audio technology company Audio Partnership, Cambridge Audio designs audio equipment intended to reproduce music as faithfully as possible. Its guiding philosophy has long been to create equipment that provides pure, accurate sound reproduction for music lovers.

Today, the brand sells products globally and is widely recognised as one of the UK’s most respected hi-fi audio companies.

Cambridge Audio Company History

Early Origins – Cambridge Audio was founded in 1968 in Cambridge, England, by a group of young engineers and technology graduates who were passionate about improving audio equipment.

The company’s first product was the P40 integrated amplifier, which became notable for being the first amplifier to use a toroidal transformer. This design improved efficiency and audio performance and later became common in high-end audio equipment.

The success of the P40 helped establish Cambridge Audio as an innovative player in the hi-fi industry.

Expansion and Ownership Changes

During the 1970s and 1980s, Cambridge Audio grew steadily as demand for high-quality home audio systems increased. However, the company underwent several ownership changes during this period as the business expanded and adapted to market conditions.

In 1994, the brand was acquired by Audio Partnership, a company founded by entrepreneurs James Johnson-Flint and Julian Richer. Under this ownership, Cambridge Audio expanded internationally and modernised its product development.

Production facilities were later established in Asia, allowing the company to produce high-quality equipment while keeping prices competitive.

Modern Era

In the 2000s and 2010s, Cambridge Audio gained widespread recognition for its award-winning hi-fi components and digital streaming technology. The company launched several successful product lines, including the Azur series, the DACMagic digital-to-analogue converters, and the StreamMagic music streaming platform.

These innovations helped Cambridge Audio transition from traditional hi-fi components to modern digital audio systems, including network streamers and wireless audio devices.

Poor Quality Furniture

March 2, 2026

Very poor experience from start to finish.

The first unit (Thalia Concave Double Chest of Drawers) arrived visibly damaged and misaligned. After weeks of back-and-forth, a replacement was eventually delivered — and that unit also arrived damaged.

These are large, heavy items. I had to pay three separate times to have the furniture moved within the property (upstairs, removal of the first unit, positioning of the replacement), all because the products were not properly quality checked before dispatch.

What stood out most was the complaint process. They are highly experienced at discouraging you from pursuing complaints and will try every procedural step possible to wear you down. It feels less like resolution and more like attrition.

Given the volume and structure of the responses, I suspect they deal with a significant number of quality issues. They also appear to manage reviews very carefully — negative feedback does not remain prominent for long. Working in marketing, I recognise the pattern.

In the end, after considerable delay and inconvenience, I accepted a 20% partial refund simply to close the matter.

When ordering large furniture, you reasonably expect proper inspection and quality control before delivery. That clearly did not happen here.

I would not order from this company again.

Poor quality furniture.

We purchased our marble table & chairs from this company. We have six chairs & three of them we cannot use as the frame have failed & cracked on the join of the frame. We contacted Lee the manager from the company at the beginning of this year in February, he had offered us £200, not long after we had the same issue with another of the set of chairs & couple of months there after another chair of the set & had the same issue. We are a family of three & barely use all the chairs only on special occasions when there are more of us.

We believe that we should have had more usage of the chairs baring in mind the cost of the table & chairs were over £ 2000.

We would not recommend this company!

Terrible customer service

November 14, 2025

Daals furniture quality might be acceptable, who knows, but their delivery is a joke.

I’d paid over £29 for express delivery on 4 items. When delivery finally came, which was only after I’d pressed them due to no delivery date, it was incomplete and what did arrive was wet and damaged. Hardly surprising, with doorbell footage showing the way it was crudely planted at the front door by DHL, with an audible “clunk” despite it having a label that said “Fragile, Glass”

I didn’t get the chance to refuse or accept this delivery because the driver didn’t wait for even a second before running back to his van.

Throughout this daals has made no effort to contact me. I am the one that has tried to drive it along, with no continuity within the company, my having to explain the whole thing every time I have called.

It’s now the end of the working day with still nothing so I have just called again and requested a refund and for daals to come and take away the remnants of this sorry shipment.

That seems to have stirred something…they are apparently looking into this with a purpose now, and I’ve agreed to wait until after the weekend. Apparently they’ve been trying to trace the missing item within DHL.

Why they can’t just send out another item is a mystery.

God knows what they’re doing about the damaged item.

Their only saving grace ie my being able to speak to a person is negated by the fact that they have so far been about as effective as a rubber fork. At no point have I got the feeling that they’ve actually done anything. I shall update this with the eventual outcome…….

Best Oak Wardrobe Purchase for my parents

September 2, 2025

I recently purchased an oak wardrobe for my parents and couldn’t be happier with the whole experience. The delivery was impressively fast, which was a real bonus. The wardrobe itself is excellent quality – solid, well-made, and clearly built to last. It looks fantastic in their bedroom, adding both style and practicality.

My parents are absolutely delighted with it, and I wouldn’t hesitate to order from this company again.

Should be renamed the "Gok" show

June 24, 2025

The content is self centred around Gok his opinions and innuendos. The “magic’ has gone out of this show and left Harriet as a side kick for his ego. I loved listening to Harriet and Ronan and laughed heartily along with them. I now choose a different station.
